Bulgarian ski schools have been given a lot of credit in recent years and the small pisted ski areas are perfect for beginners. For the adventurous, intermediate skier Bulgaria offers a completely different experience to the average European ski holiday. For those with a sense humour the place is just perfect.

Bulgarian ski resorts still however remain quite sparse in terms of things to do and see, sometimes it may even be hard to find a supermarket. If you want to lap up some of the Bulgarian culture or if skiing and boarding are not your thing it is possible to take day trips to local towns such as Sofia as long as the public transport is running. Nightlife is somewhat varied and in a lot of places can be a bit of an eye-opener but there is usually something for everyone. The local cuisine is fairly bland but as Western culture is embraced pizza restaurants and the like are slowly popping up.
